CONTEXT
The dairy sector in Algeria still suffers today from a wide dispersion of farms in space, making it difficult to distinguish between dairy basins. The farms are characterized by the predominance of herds of less than 5 dairy cows, a mixture of imported breeds with high potential, local breeds with low potential and cows from random crossbreeding. Several obstacles hinder the development of the milk sector in Algeria, including mainly breeding practices that remain inadequate for the majority of farmers, which has negative consequences on the health of the animals (mastitis, brucellosis), on the duration of lactations, on the number of calvings/milk cow, and on the productivity of these dairy cows.Themes addressed in the forum
