WEBINAR: Startups as levers for intelligent agriculture

Meeting the challenge of food security without damaging our environment!

Innovation is a vital issue for the performance of a key sector of the national economy which is agriculture. The Filaha Innovates Foundation (GRFI), convinced of the imperative need to encourage innovation in Algeria, has launched since 2019, the competition SIPSA Innov’. Indeed, it is within the framework of the preparatory awareness work for the decree on « labeling of agricultural products », that FILAHA Innove has initiated the promotion of intelligent and sustainable agriculture. Also, it is in this context that the Filaha Innov’ competition will bring together talents and skills from various backgrounds (young researchers, academics, professionals and managers of start-ups, companies, breeders, farmers …).

The need to promote an intelligent and innovative agriculture has been and remains the hobbyhorse of the GRFI which gathers experts and multidisciplinary skills that reflect on themes related to the development of the agricultural world and its organization. For this 4th webinar, the GRFI will try to provide answers to the question: How can innovation in agriculture help us meet the challenge of food security without damaging our environment? A guarantee of sustainable development for our country.

Agriculture in Algeria, as elsewhere in the world, must now face major challenges to increase production and productivity of agricultural products, and their transformation into food while preserving the environment. Farmers will not be able to meet these challenges alone by resorting only to traditional practices.

Innovation is the breeding ground and catalyst for a dynamic smart agriculture. Innovations, in the broadest sense, are indeed important levers of change, adaptation, rationalization in the face of the multiple challenges facing Algerian agriculture.

The mechanization of agriculture, advanced technologies, lʼInternet of Things (IoT) – the art of connecting and integrating objects, individuals, information and systems for intelligent production and services, are now the promising prospects envisaged to achieve the goal of food security and allow the emergence of an ecological agriculture and a modern rural world providing healthy products.

This intelligent agriculture cannot be limited to the mechanical importation of new processes and technological innovations born under other skies and other contexts different from ours. Indeed, these innovations will have to obey a minimum of plasticity to our needs and to our local capacities of appropriation and technological absorption. The latest generation of equipment will require a large mobilization of our innovation capacities from our local collective intelligence.

Webinar objectives

  • Determine the extent to which high-tech agricultural techniques and technologies can contribute to ensuring agricultural performance and thus food security while limiting costs and preserving the environment.
  • To highlight the role of the institutional ecosystem of innovation in Algeria and the missions of innovation institutions.
