SIPSA-FILAHA 2019, A challenge succeeds
On October 10th SIPSA-FILAHA closed its 19th edition of the International Agriculture Livestock and Agro-equipment Exhibition. Bringing together a unique business hub of 450 exhibitors, 57% of whom are international, from around 30 countries, the SIPSA FILAHA is the preferred meeting place for investors, in this sector where the dynamic is encouraged by a national policy of « promotion of non-hydrocarbon exports » and a willingness to meet the challenge of sustainable food and health security.
Despite a difficult economic context, the SIPSA FILAHA 2019 attracted more than 23,000 visitors, who came to shape up their agricultural projects, thus showing that agriculture remains an attractive sector for investments.
A prominent business climate geared towards Africa
SIPSA FILAHA 2019 took place in a very favorable environment for intra-African trade, particularly following the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF), to which Algeria signed.
This edition also coincided with the national conference dealing with the Free Trade Area (ZLECAF) issues, which allowed exhibitors to benefit from qualified African visitors, thus offering them the opportunity to explore new business opportunities and promote their products in African markets.
The SIPSA FILAHA 2019 was also a particularly intense political meeting with the presence of Mr. Cherif Omari, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Mr. Said Djellab, Minister of Commerce and Mr. Hassan Rabehi Minister of Communication.
The presence of many ambassadors and institutions has confirmed the economic significance of this international event.
A challenge succeeds for young start-ups and birth of the incubator « SIPSA INNOV »
The 2019 edition of the SIPSA FILAHA distinguished itself by the organization of the first initiative towards young start-ups carrying projects in the agricultural sector with the organization of the SIPSA INNOV ‘AWARDS 2019.
This is an innovative initiative which aims to promote an intelligent and sustainable agriculture, this contest puts into competition talents and competences coming from diverse horizons (exhibitors from SIPSA-FILAHA, young researchers, academics, professionals, and managers of Start-up, farmers …).
Thus, 77 projects were presented, 18 selected and 3 SIPSA INNOV ‘trophies and 3 SIPSA Innov’ Hope Award medals were awarded.
This new initiative reinforces the position of SIPSA FILAHA as a catalyst for innovative projects in agriculture and the « SIPSA INNOV » incubator was acclaimed at the closing by the attending ministers of agriculture, trade, and communication.
Conferences dealing with the core challenges of sustainable food and health security in Algeria
The forums and conferences held on the sidelines of the fair dealt with various topics, the first day was dedicated to the Maghreb Veterinary Forum « FIV » under the aegis of the UMAVET to revive the national and Maghreb veterinary associations, and exchange recommendations on production and animal health in the Maghreb.
On the second day, the AGROECO forum brought together stakeholders involved in agro-ecology, organic farming, local produce, agritourism and the enhancement of the environment and natural areas in urban and peri-urban areas to encourage a common interaction and anticipate the prospects, innovations and transformations needed to ensure sustainable food security.
As for the SIAFIL EXPORT Forum, supported by the Ministry of Commerce, focused on the valuation of domestic agricultural products for export.
The papers and presentations focused on the strengths and weaknesses of national companies in the field of fruit and vegetable exports and highlighted the role of logistics and GLOBAL GAP certification in the development of export.
The AGRIFOOD INNOV ‘Forum organized for the first time under the theme « valorization of agricultural products in agro-industry and the challenges of innovation in agribusiness » and the importance of its implementation in future editions of the SIPSA -FILAHA on the occasion of the 20th anniversary.
